Using the address for a Driving Licence
boatmail.co.uk has a considerable number of Driving Licences registered at the address in different names and in many ways is it is understandable that the DVLA are challenging whether the applicant is genuine
Applications for a new or renewal of a Driving Licence may be challenged and, in some cases, refused by DVLA
For the boating and travelling community, a response to this showing that the holder has a travelling lifestyle and the said address is the only point of contact (and you can be contacted quickly is key) will progress the application and a licence is normally issued (for those living on canal boats, a copy of the Canal and River Trust Licence will suffice as proof of the lifestyle or in vehicle based lifestyles a copy of the V5 and receipts from
sites). Contact with the person reviewing the case at DVLA appears to help as well

DVLA’s latest batch of letters to customers is at least now showing that they are initially refusing to issue a licence as residential street address provided to customers is not a residential address !! As below, if the address provided by boatmail.co.uk is your only point of contact then, subject to fraud checks, they will issue you a licence
13 Feb
The DVLA has recently been identifying addresses with multiple Driving Licences registered at them (boatmail.co.uk has around 90 registered at the address) and challenging holders to whether they are genuine under Fraud Prevention actvities. The DVLA have further compounded the issue as they are writing to all the boatmail.co.uk customers saying their Driving Licences will no longer be valid whist registered at a PO Box - clearly customers are registering the licences at the street address provided by boatmail.co.uk - do DVLA really know what they are doing !
Anyway, boatmail.co.uk customers can still use the free street address for registering their Licence, and, as boatmail.co.uk understands it, providing the holder can demonstrate they are permanently travelling, they have no other address in the UK and that the address provided by boatmail.co.uk is their only contact address

When boatmail.co.uk commenced scanning mail for customers, for subscription customers we charged 25p for every page that we scanned (Pay as you Go service charged differently). This is the same charging principle as other Mail Forwarders in that every activity is charged for
Customers who have mail scanned as part of their account instructions may have noticed that through the late summer and into the autumn we have been charging differently. We have been trialling charging 25p for each mail piece received regardless of the number of pages to assess how many of the items will require multiple page scanning and how this affects the time spent on each customers mail and the impact on revenue for boatmail.co.uk. The majority of scans are for 1 or 2 pages
We are pleased to announce that from January 2017 the customers who have a subscription service the charge for scanning will change from 25p per page to 25p for up to and including 5 pages. 6 pages and more will be additionally charged at 25p per scan with a fee limit of £2.50 regardless of how many pages are scanned
Customers who have a Pay as you Go account will now be charged £2.50 per page scanned up to 5 pages scanned with any additional pages charged at £2.50 with a fee limit of £10.00 regardless of how many pages are scanned

boatmail.co.uk was disgusted to hear of one of the mail forwarding competitors recently went bust and all customers money was lost
Mail forwarding generally works by customers paying both a subscription fee and providing a deposit from which any transaction cost is deducted from. boatmail.co.uk customers will recognise this as the £25 deposit customers pay.
The company in question closed due to financial issues, did not inform customers of the new position, and took all the deposit money with them
boatmail.co.uk has robust contingency plans in place if the business stops trading (highly unlikely !) and customers deposits are safe as they are accounted for separately and any money will be returned to them including any unused subscription payments
Jul 10 - Adlington Post Office added to Pick up Points for mail
boatmail.co.uk/poste-restante-mail-pick-up-points
Jul 8 - One of boatmail.co.uk competitors ( myukmail.co.uk) recently ceased trading and took all customers money with them. boatmail.co.uk accounts for and holds customers money in a separate account and only draws on this when required. If boatmail.co.uk closed unexpectedly, your money is safe. Any not used for mail forwarding will be refunded. And any mail held/ or received will be sent to you/nominated address. It’s a long wait until we get the state pension so we will be around for many years !
Apr 11 - if you need a one off forwarding, we charge £10 plus postage
Apr 4 - if you have a very low volume of mail and need a fee UK street address to register life at, we can help - check out our fees page - the original Pay as you Go service
